About This Work
Remembering the past can provide images that a composer can best express through music. With Symphony For Vietnam Veterans, the composer formed musical interpretations reflecting his own experience as a soldier in Vietnam.
In 1986, after marching in the Chicago Welcome Home Parade for Vietnam Veterans, the composer felt a desire to finally confront the emotions from his own time in Vietnam. The work is a musical recollection of those memories, and represents a personal catharsis.
Chapters 1 and 2 represent the events leading to the composer's arrival in Vietnam in 1970, and his departure eleven months later. Chapters 3 and 4 are yet to be completed.
