Buffalo Soldiers

Buffalo Soldiers

Buffalo Soldiers was commissioned by The Wes Point Academy for their 2002 Bicentennial celebration at New York Carnegie Hall. Originally written for Symphonic Wind Ensemble it was scored for full orchestra in 2010.

The score includes an optional Abraham Lincoln narration and a narration from a speech delivered by General Colin Powell to celebrate the unveiling of the Buffalo Soldier Statue at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas in 1992.

Of note the score calls for the use of four howitzers, and General Powell gave his personal endorsement to use his words.

*****After the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Buffalo Soldiers (the composition) was re-orchestrated with a revised narration. It is now titled American Soldier and available on the CD Symphony For The Sons of Nam which includes a narration by Actor Gary Sinise.
